“Tinea Pedis”

Athlete’s foot, or Tinea Pedis, is a fungal infection of the skin that can cause redness, itching and flaking of the skin. About 70% of the population will suffer from Athlete’s foot in their lifetime. This type of infection is usually contracted in an area where people walk barefoot. It can also develop from excess moisture that is present in shoes.

 

Signs and Symptoms

 
  • Itching, stinging, and burning between your toes or on soles of your feet

  • Blisters on your feet that itch

  • Cracking and peeling skin on your feet

  • Dry skin on your soles or sides of your feet

  • Discolored, thick, and crumbly toenails

  • Toenails that pull away from the nail bed

Diagnosis & Treatment

 

Proper diagnosis is vital to treatment as other diseases may present as athlete’s foot. Dr. Hanawalt will diagnose the cause of your itchy, scaling feet. Treatment may include topical medications, addressing moisture in shoes, or oral medications.
