Plantars Warts

“Verrucae”

Warts (verrucae) are a viral infection that involves the top layer of our skin called the epidermis. This is typically caused by the Human Papillomavirus Type 1. While they may be difficult to treat, they are a benign growth.

Warts most commonly affect kids, though they can occur at any age. They may or may not cause pain and will likely be present for weeks or months unless treated.

Diagnosis and Treatment

Diagnosing a wart is critical to proper treatment. The diagnosis is often made on physical exam but may require a portion of the tissue being sent to a lab for analysis.

Many treatments exist for warts and more than one treatment option may be needed to achieve complete resolution of a wart. Treatments range from topical medications, oral medications to surgical excision. Dr. Hanawalt will review the best treatment for your specific wart.
