Foot & Ankle Pain
Common Causes
Your feet bear your weight and take you where you need to go. They’re remarkably complex structures, full of bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, tendons, and blood vessels, all working together. It’s possible to injure just about any of these components, or experience problems in your feet as the result of another condition, resulting in foot pain.
Foot pain often comes from overuse, or the repetitive wear-and-tear you place on your feet. Overuse injuries are common among runners and people who work on their feet, and tend to be worse if you perform these activities without supportive footwear.
The structure of your feet may make you more susceptible to foot pain. If you have flat feet or high arches, for example, you’re more likely to place excess pressure on your feet.
Achilles Tendon
Despite the achilles tendon being a large and powerful tendon, it can be injured.
Arthritis
Arthritis is one of the most common causes of pain and disability in the ankle.
Big Toe Pain
Most patients don’t realize how much we use our big toe until there is a problem.
Bunions
Many people suffer from the pain of bunions before seeking treatment.
Flatfoot
Flatfoot leads to a partial or complete collapse of the foot arch.
Gout
Gout is a form of arthritis that occurs due uric acid in the body and joint fluid.
Hammertoe
A hammertoe is an abnormal bending of the toe that may result in pain.
Nerve Pressure
Nerve pressure can cause significant pain to the foot, ankle and lower leg.
Neuroma
A thickening of nerve tissue that may develop in various parts of the body.
Heel Pain
Proper diagnosis of heel pain is essential to resolve the pain with the proper treatment.
Pediatric Heel Pain
The most common cause is a painful inflammation of the heel’s growth plate.
“Doctor was very informative, personable and spent all the time that I wanted to discuss my condition. I plan to make her my regular podiatrist.”
